The Fall 2012 fashion shows showcased a varied amount of hairstyles, ranging from bombshell to contemporary.

Hair Fashion Trends 2012

Here were the top three looks that made waves on the runways, and the designers who have proved to be ahead of the trends.

Casual Girl, Messy Bun

Seen at Narcisco Rodriguez and Alberta Ferretti was the messy bun.

The classic middle styled bun this season is slightly messed up by leaving a few strands out loose and not combing the hair to perfection. Use various sized bobby pins to achieve a loose bun style. Less old school ballet and more modern day prep school.

Key Hair Product: Bobby Pins.

Classic Style, Retro Poof

Seen at Jean Paul Gaultier, Peter Som and Bottega Veneta the classic poof made a comeback!

Channeling a sixties housewife meets Brigitte Bardot starlet this hairstyle is high maintenance. Use volumizing spray generously on damp hair and then blow dry. Back comb as much as possible to create your desired height and turn the ends into a French twist securing with bobby pins.

Key Hair Product: Volumizing Spray, Hairspray and Bobby Pins.

Good Girls, Sleek Ponytail

Seen on the runways of Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Gucci were the sleekest of ponytails.

Imagine the good girl in school that always looked well put together and more times than not you’ll remember the neat high ponytail! This style allows for no strands out of place and for hair to be as shiny as possible. Blow dry hair straight and liberally spray a gloss/high shine spray all over your hair. Go over hair, small sections at a time, with a flat iron ensuring strands are as straight as possible. Carefully comb hair into a high ponytail and secure with an opaque/hair colored thin elastic band. If you want to go for the ultimate neat ‘do’ take a one-inch section from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic to hide the band, secure with a small pin. Finish off with a high shine hairspray to keep strands in place.

Key Hair Product: High Shine Spray and Flat Irons.

So whether you are looking for high maintenance hair, extremely neat looks or casual easy to style hair this fall, 2012 has something for you and your lifestyle.
