Children’s designer clothing has grown into a huge market rivaling that of the adult world. Read on for more on both Juicy Couture & Ralph Lauren.
The children’s designer clothing market has grown incredibly fast the last few years, from specialality boutiques and stores to designers launching children’s collections alongside their existing lines.
Best Brands in Children’s Designer Clothing
Juicy Couture and Ralph Lauren both have children’s collections for girls aged between two and mid teen years. Both ranges were spin offs from their adult collections and have grown into their own successful lines.
Juicy Couture for Children
Juicy Couture has an apparel collection for young girls aged between two to six and seven to fourteen as well as collections featuring swim, accessories, shoes and jewelry.
Many of the pieces in the children’s collection are reminiscent of the adults Juicy Couture collection; velour tracksuits remain almost identical. However the underlining focus for the children’s collections are the kids and the fact that they are young children and not adults.
Design and style features for the 2011 season for the two to six age range include animal prints, leggings, hooded tops, fun printed and applique tees. For the six to fourteen age range animal print is included again as well as more grown up nautical stripes, denim pieces, and slogan tees.
Juicy Couture is a contemporary collection of apparel and accessories featuring casual and lounge wear. Founded by two friends in 1996, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor in California and now owned by the Liz Claiborne company. It was in 2002 that Juicy Couture launched the children’s line.
Recently celebrity kids have been spotted out and about wearing their latest Juicy Couture find; Jessica Alba’s daughter Honor favors their leggings, Suri Cruise and Violet Affleck both love their Juicy Couture grey and pink cardigan.
Juicy Couture know, like many brands, that young children want to wear similar styles to their parents and celebrities are no exception!
Ralph Lauren for Children
Ralph Lauren offers young girls and boys fashion styles the same as what adult customers can buy. In particular their polo tops are big sellers for both markets.
The girl’s collection for ages two to six includes block color dresses with frills, denim pieces, loose fitted blouses, cardigans, shoes and accessories. For the seven to sixteen age range the collection includes sweater dresses, belted dresses, polo top style dresses, cardigans, sweaters, hoodies, leggings, pants, skirts, shoes and accessories.
In the late 1960s, Ralph Lauren launched a fashion collection for adults featuring quality pieces with an American style. In 1978 Ralph Lauren launched their first childrenswear collection; “I had two sons by then, and my wife came home from shopping telling me that there were no pure cotton shirts for boys,” he says. “Everything was polyester, nothing of the kind of quality we like. So I started making boy’s clothes.”
Celebrity children who have spotted wearing Ralph Lauren pieces include Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Tori Spelling’s daughter Stella, and Marcia Cross’s daughter Savannah.
The young children’s designer market is a growing industry; kids are getting more opinionated about what they wear and in particular “who” they wear!
Season after season more designers and brands are launching children’s collections along with their existing ranges. Choices are vast and the competition high so it can only get more colorful!
